Viewpoints 2019 - Haldane

About

Returning to the Festival of Thrift for a second year, VIEWPOINTS is focusing on clean air in the Tees Valley. This exciting and ambitious project will include sculptures, installations and artworks displayed across the Tees Valley in the week of the festival.

HALDANE

An enormous artwork taking over the side of the TWI Technology Centre. With a form inspired by the dazzle camouflage paint installation of HMS Vetch, a Flower-class corvette built by the Smiths Dock Company in Middlesbrough during the 2nd World War, the artwork will feature two giant canaries, a bird often used in mining to signify the presence of toxic gases. HALDANE gives a visual nod to Teesside’s shipbuilding heritage as well as connecting us to our mining past.

This exciting artwork will remain as a permanent feature on the side of TWI Technology Centre, so don’t worry if you don’t get to visit it during the festival!

ABOUT COLIN DAVIES

Colin’s artistic focus is on large scale, high-quality, accessible public art interventions installed in community-focussed environments. Using bold, bright geometric forms to communicate across great distance, the work is designed to be impactful.
