A high wire act at the Stockton International Riverside Festival

About

Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF) is going online for 2020 and you can get involved. Don't only watch the festival but be a part of it by getting involved in carnival inspired workshops at home.

SIRF at Home Community Carnival - 'Junk for Joy'

While we can’t come together to enjoy the usual community carnival parade hosted by SIRF this summer, they can still bring the joy of carnival to you!

Over the next 9 weeks SIRF we be sharing a series of fun carnival inspired workshops for you to take part in at home.

Send your pictures and films of your creations and contributions, so they can be stitched together to create a big virtual community carnival parade.on Saturday 1 August at 12pm – it’ll be just like the real thing but over the airwaves!

Get Creating

The Community Carnival theme this year is Junk for Joy. The talented SIRF Creative Carnival team will take you on a journey of junk discovery. They will get you transforming all available ‘Junk’ into ‘Joy’ to make your carnival costumes and accessories and they’ll also get you dancing and drumming so that you can learn your routines and join in from your own home.

Weekly junk inspired workshops with easy to follow, step by step online tutorials will be available to view via the SIRF Social Media channels. You can join in each week or catch up by viewing the workshops when you can. There are lots of exciting activities planned over the next few weeks including groove missions with Urban Kaos, DIY Drumming, Carnival crafts with household Junk.

This year, young people aged 5 - 25 can also use this as an opportunity to take part in an Arts Award Discover introductory award. The award is a national qualification that aims to nurture an interest in the arts, build confidence and life skills and supporting education and future employment. All you need to do is take part in the Carnival workshops, research or ask one of our Carnival artists a question and share your creations with the SIRF team. Places are limited so register your interest by email: SIRFadmin@stockton.gov.uk
