Looking for ways to tick off your New Year’s Resolution list?

Whether you promised yourself to try something new, get outdoors more, or become more sustainable, there are plenty of options to start 2022 the right way in the Tees Valley.

Explore the great outdoors more

Whether you’re on a fitness frenzy, or just looking to get out more, the Tees Valley has so many breathtaking outdoor spaces just waiting to be explored.

Take to the Teesdale Way, an amazing walking route encompassing Darlington, Stockton-on-Tees and Redcar. Discover countryside routes hidden behind the pretty market town of Yarm, enjoy riverside rambles at Piercebridge near Darlington, or enjoy a pitstop at Tees Barrage, where you can pick up a well-deserved snack from SanSeb Coffee.

Up for a challenge? Push yourself to try the 10k run around the beautiful grounds of Ormesby Hall, every fourth Sunday of the month, or enjoy a jog in one of the region’s picturesque parks.

If you’re more of a beach lover, a stroll along the Tees Valley’s dramatic coastline is a must. Enjoy a jaunt from Redcar to Saltburn via Marske beach, which consists of four miles of secluded sands, ending with fresh fish and chips with a side of fabulous views on Saltburn Pier.

Try something new in 2022

We’re entering the new year, so it’s only right to try something new. From unique yoga sessions to on-water experiences, you can pick up some skills while still having fun.

Relax your mind with a spot of yoga at some of the region’s most picturesque locations – give on-water yoga a shot with SUP Adventures UK, or dolphin pose at the beach with TreeLiving Yoga & Healing. Get your creative juices flowing with art workshops from MIMA, brush up on your culinary skills with Arches Cookery School or become a master in mixology with a cocktail class from The Nuthatch.

Take up paddleboarding lessons with Tees Active or learn to ride a wave at Saltburn’s beautiful Blue Flag Beach with the amazing instructors at Saltburn Surf School and Flow Surf School. If you’d prefer to stay on dry land, why not explore your wild side and get in touch with nature? Learn all about wildlife at RSPB Saltholme or enjoy wild foraging with Wild Roots Foraging.

Step into the new year and out of your comfort zone

2022 is the time to step out of your comfort zone, so why not do it in the Tees Valley?

Get your blood pumping as you take on the twists and turns of an Olympic-standard white water rafting course at Tees Barrage or feel the thrill of scaling all five levels of Air Trail.

Make your way to Teesside Karting to feel the rush of the UK’s fastest racecourse or enjoy the wind through your hair as you jump an exhilarating jet ski ride thanks to On Water Training.

Go Green

Be sustainable and help the planet one step at a time, all while enjoying what the region has to offer.

Whether you’re giving Veganuary a go or eat plant-based all year round, there’s a variety of tasty vegan grub on offer. Tuck into a meat-free Teesside speciality, the ‘parmo’, from Seabreeze Fish & Chips and V-Edge, enjoy vegan cookies and milk alternatives from Maple & Dough or enjoy a bite to eat at The Waiting Room. Base Camp Middlesbrough is the place to be for banging plant-based burgers, and Alkaline Kitchen offers some of the region’s most Insta-worthy food.

Zero waste stores are an amazing way to shop sustainably. Head to The Cut Back in Saltburn, a refill shop and eco hub, offering everything from food and drink to travel cups and cosmetics.

You can also protect the earth one product at a time with The Simple Weigh in Hartlepool, where you will find a range of sustainable products on their shelves.
