Middlesbrough Mela makes a welcome return to Albert Park this summer with the first full-scale event in two years. Join in the fun and celebrate across a full weekend in August at this fab and FREE multicultural festival of delights!

Whether it’s your first time at the Mela or you’re absolutely buzzing that it’s back, here’s three reasons why you absolutely need to save the date for 13 & 14 August.

The Main Stage line-up

Coming back in style, the main stage will be jam-packed with the finest in Bhangra and Desi beats. Hosted by BBC Asian Network’s Bobby Friction, headline acts include Panjabi MC and Lehmber Hussainpuri. Recognised across the world in both the music business and the movies, they will set the stage alight with legendary tracks and electrifying performances!

Joining them on the stage will be Jenna, Rita Morar, Jodi Dancers, Harvey Sahota, Kuldeep Purewal, Rajni Aarya and loads more.

Keep your eyes peeled for performances from local community groups too, including Sri Lankan Tees Angels, Chris Don and Lyndsey Porteus.

The Market Bazaar

A firm favourite at the Mela, be ready to enjoy a day of shopping and eating at the market bazaar. Lining the avenue of trees is a shopper’s paradise. Featuring food, fashion, fabrics and everything else in between, traders come from all over the UK to sell their wares. Imagine walking through a souk or an international market when you’re on holiday and that’s the vibe of the bazaar.

Once you’ve shopped until you’ve dropped and got a bag full of goodies, you can enjoy some fabulous food from all around the world. Find your spot in the park and settle down for a picnic full of tasty treats and delicious delights!

Family Fun

Think workshops and interactive activities, a funfair full of rides and loads of family fun and that’s just a taster of what you can expect at the Mela weekend. Perfect for all the family to enjoy, look forward to meeting the Middlesbrough Museums team and making Mela-inspired masks.

Beamish Museum will be there exploring stories and encouraging you to peek inside their mystery suitcases to see what you can find.

Look out for street theatre performances and walkabout characters as they stroll around the park – they’re primed for photo opportunities and love to pose with you for your family memories.

There will also be some books magic with Middlesbrough Reads and Teesside Archives for any history fans.

If all of this sounds right up your street, pop the date on your calendar and get ready for a big Boro weekend that you won’t forget in a hurry.

Middlesbrough Mela is in Albert Park on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 August.
