A free monthly space for writers to share their poems, flash fiction, monologues, short story or novel extracts, hosted by the Tees Women Poets in association with Stockton Libraries.
The special guest in May is Cathy Carson. Cathy will be coming to us live from Crossgar, Northern Ireland. Her unique brand of storytelling speaks on life and love, and draws unflinching portraits of both beauty and ugliness. She writes to raise awareness of the vulnerable, and to give a voice to the voiceless. She exploded onto the global spoken word scene last year thanks to the wonders of technology, and an international audience has heard and loved her words. She was given Special Mention as a Spoken Word Artist in this year’s Saboteur Awards. We are delighted she can be with us between hospital shifts!
The open mic part of the evening is open to everyone from everywhere, with a particular welcome for writers who are women and/or from Teesside. We do not permit hateful or offensive speech, and reserve the right to refuse entry or remove anyone behaving inappropriately. We ask all readers and performers to send us the text of their work in advance, so we can screen share it for our deaf audience members.
