Come and listen to some extraordinary stories of ordinary people lives as local historian Martin Peagam explores how Jewish people from Eastern Europe settled in Teesside in the late nineteenth century, some escaping persecution and others seeking opportunity.

Martin will also describe how Teesside responded to the plight of another generation of Jewish people, those persecuted by the ethnic cleansing policies of Nazi Germany in the 1930s, telling how those seeking an escape found a refuge in Teesside.
