About

Take a tour around this amazing Victorian Gothic building, opened in 1889, to enjoy spaces which haven’t been used by the public for many years.

Admire the improvements not only in the Main Hall and the Crypt, but also the previously unseen areas of the Old Fire Station, Police Courtroom and Police Cells, all accessed from the Carriage Driveway.

Learn about how it was designed, why it is so large and what has happened here over the years, including who lived here! See the civic badges, dragons and eagles, the amazing musicians’ window, the almost unchanged historic Courtroom with its stunning stained glass ceiling and journalists’ graffiti, and experience the atmospheric Police Cells where prisoners left their mark.

Tickets are free but places are limited and must be booked in advance.
