Starting in Yarm, the central Georgian market place is home to the Dutch-style town hall, as well as the George & Dragon public house, which hosted a meeting in 1821 to seek permission to build the Stockton & Darlington Railway. The Teesdale Way then follows the river’s meandering flood plain towards the heart of Stockton-on-Tees, with just a few brief ascents to break up the journey. This section of the route links the two towns of Yarm and Stockton-on-Tees as it winds its way through the Tees Valley.
