About

Dr Beverley Prevatt Goldstein’s work celebrates the history of Black lives in northern England and uncovers some fascinating hidden histories.

In this talk she will explore the presence and success of people of African descent in the North East of England, including Lindy Delaphena (who played for Middlesbrough) and Olaudah Equiano (writer and abolitionist and visitor to Stockton). Significantly this research helps to dispel the myth that the North East is exclusively white and monocultural.
