If you are visiting in the summer season, you can enjoy all the seaside essentials from delicious fish and chips, traditional arcades and a stroll along the longest remaining pleasure pier on the North East Coast at Saltburn-by-the-Sea. No trip to the seaside is complete without an ice cream, so finish your day with the local ice cream – the Lemon Top, a cone filled with delicious vanilla ice cream topped with a lemon sorbet – head to Pacitto’s on Redcar seafront for an original.
For a day at the coast at a slower pace head to the secret, secluded beaches of Marske-by-the-Sea and Skinningrove which provide an escape from the crowds (just don’t tell too many people about them!)
The beaches aren’t only worth a visit in summer. Many are dog friendly during the autumn and winter months and are perfect for a bracing walk, you can add some activity by catching some waves on a surfboard or paddleboard or keep an eye out for an array of wildlife in all seasons.
